The SADC (Southern African Community) Basic Income Grant Network is a network composed of 51 civil society organisations; mostly working on issues of advancing social, economic and tax justice Southern African region, however, the network is not only limited to Southern Africa but also includes other civil society organisations operating elsewhere on the African Continent in advocating for similar issues. The rationale behind the SADC BIG Network is to advocate for guaranteed income security, tax justice, social and economic justice for a majority of SADC citizens who remain destitute and marginalised despite the mineral wealth that exist in the region. The SADC BIG Network is therefore advocating for the institutionalisation of a universal cash transfer grant in a form of a living wage in Southern African countries through taxes generated from mineral wealth and other sources of government revenue.
